Synopsis of the Sculpture Series: “金木水火土”
The Sculpture Society (Singapore) proudly presents “金木水火土Essence of Wuxing”, a fascinating exploration of the ancient Chinese philosophy of the Five Elements through contemporary sculpture. By delving into the symbolic, metaphysical, and physical qualities of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, the artists will create a rich dialogue between eastern and western philosophies, offering their unique perspectives on these fundamental forces.
The concept of having each element individually featured in its own exhibition allows for a deep dive into each element’s essence while also providing a dynamic, evolving experience for the audience.
Theme and Concept “金”
“Resilience of Metal” the first exhibition in the series, promises a compelling exhibition that delves into the inherent qualities of metal and how it symbolizes strength, resilience, and transformation. The exhibition is poised to showcase a range of works that not only highlight the physical properties of metal—such as durability and precision—but also explore its metaphorical significance in shaping both tangible structures and abstract ideas.
The focus on the transformative power of purification is particularly intriguing, suggesting that the artists might delve into the processes that refine and strengthen metal, perhaps drawing parallels to personal or societal resilience. By examining these themes, the exhibition could offer a deep exploration of how metal, as both material and metaphor, plays a crucial role in defining our world.
